My wife and I came across Villa Festeggiata completely by accident and fell immediately in love. The "bella vista" was breathtaking and the villa location heavenly. The Sangiovese vineyards looked healthy but neglected. With some trepidation I asked to taste the owner's wine. What a revelation. Seventy five-year-old vines were producing wine of intense color and good acidity. We saw an opportunity to take a good wine and make it a great one. The property was acquired and I invested in personnel and plant on a scale frankly more appropriate to a much larger endeavour.
Business friends joke that every €100 bottle of Festeggiata costs €1,000 to produce. I amaze myself by replying, "It is worth it". Opening a bottle of Festeggiata anywhere in the world from New York to London to Hong Kong immediately transports you to Tuscany. The wild aroma and smooth complex taste reminds you to live life as a celebration. That feeling is priceless.
